Kutluk Oktay


 

Kutluk Oktay, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is one of the world’s foremost experts in fertility preservation as well as ovarian stimulation and in vitro fertilization for challenging infertility problems.

Dr. Oktay developed and performed the world’s first ovarian transplantation procedures as well as pioneering new techniques in the field of fertility preservation and ovarian stimulation/in vitro fertilization.

Dr. Oktay has devoted his professional life to the art and science of infertility treatment and  fertility preservation. He is a world-renowned researcher, a gifted medical educator, and a skilled clinician who is dedicated to his patients. He obtained his MD degree at the top of his class from Hacettepe University  in Ankara, the leading medical school in Turkey. He then underwent Internal Medicine training at Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey and Cook County Hospital, Chicago Illinois. Subsequently, he completed his Obstetrics & Gynecology residency at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, Connecticut and subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at the University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas. He then was awarded the prestigious American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology/Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology-WellBeing fellowship to work on reproductive aging research at the University of Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom. Upon returning from the UK, Dr. Oktay performed the world's first ovarian tissue transplant with previously frozen ovarian tissue, proving that menopause could be reversed with this approach. After nearly a 10-year of academic carrier and helping infertility patients at Cornell Medical School in New York City, Dr. Oktay relocated to Westchester near his family. There he was named the Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Medicine and Pathology in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at New York Medical College where he now directs the Division of Reproductive Medicine & Infertility. He is board certified and re-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility. Dr. Oktay has published more than 150 scientific articles and book chapters. Dr. Oktay has recently discovered how oocytes age and their quality goes down with age, explaining age-related drop in fertility rates and increase in pregnancy losses. Look for his recently published groundbreaking research in on why oocytes age in the prestigious journal of Science Translational Medicine.

Dr. Oktay is also closely involved with the Oncology field. He was invited to the President’s Cancer Panel as an expert on fertility issues of cancer patients. He is also the co-chair of the American Society for Clinical Oncologists committee in the area of fertility preservation. In attestation to his recognition as a leading clinician-scientist in infertility field, he received numerous highly competitive research grants from the National Institute of Health to study fertility preservation and human infertility. 

Dr. Oktay is an accomplished laparoscopic and robotic surgeon. In recognition of his medical and surgical skills, he was named Top Doctors in America by Castle & Connolly and Top Doctors in New York by New York Magazine, Ladies Home Journal and others year after year. He has also received awards from patient organizations such as the Resolve and Fertile Hope. His accomplishments have been covered by major networks and media nationally and internationally.
