Freezing Embryos to Preserve Fertility
Speaker: Dr. Kutluk Oktay
Length: 62 seconds
Summary: Freezing embryos before chemo and radiation treatments offers cancer patients an established choice to preserve their future fertility options. In this procedure, women undergo 2 weeks of ovarian stimulation with fertility drugs and eggs are retrieved by a simple outpatient procedure transvaginally. These eggs are then fertilized with sperm and the embryos are frozen, to be re-implanted in the patient or occasionally into a surrogate after the patient completes cancer treatment.
